High in the hills of the White Carpathians, women endowed with exceptional abilities have long lived. They knew how to heal and help with all kinds of suffering, they knew how to help in difficulties and they were also said to see into the future. They were called goddesses and their art was passed down from generation to generation. Dora Idesová is one of the last of the Žítkov goddesses. However, she did not learn their art, she studied ethnography and decided to write an extensive scientific study about them. At the end of the 1990s, she discovers in the Pardubice Ministry of the Interior archive an operational volume of the StB directed at an internal enemy — her aunt, the goddess Surmena. Dora unravels the fates of the Žitkov women and is surprised to discover that although she herself did not become a goddess, she is also an integral part of the mysterious tradition... Comment by Kateřina Tučková I was extremely pleased to have the book about the Žitkov goddesses converted into an audiobook format. When I visited the studio, and when I later listened to the resulting recordings, I suddenly realized the broader dimension of the story, the life span of the characters and, above all, their independence from me. It was a bit of a strange discovery, because until now I had considered them a part of my soul - and suddenly they are living their own lives! But considering that Tereza Bebarová breathed that life into them, and she did it in a particularly gentle and sensitive way, I am happy about this discovery. Her work -- and of course also the work of Mr. Miroslav Táborský -- has moved the text to a different, new and rich level. I am sure that the recording will please not only those who prefer to listen to the text, but also those who, for example, liked the story of the Žitkov goddesses in printed form. I was also very happy with the musical consultation with M. Trtková and the Čečera choir from Starý Hrozenkov.
