The lifestyle of Kashmiri Gujjars is very diverse and rich. These people live mainly in the hilly areas of Jammu and Kashmir and their lifestyle includes the following characteristics: Housing: Gujjars traditionally live in huts, called 'Gur'. These huts are usually made of wood and grass and vary according to the season. Food: Their diet is mainly based on milk, curd, ghee and grains. Wild fruits and vegetables found in the hilly areas are also a part of their diet. Clothing: Gujjars usually wear woolen clothes, which protect them from the cold. Men often wear sherwani or kurta, while women wear colourful salwar-kurta or saree. Culture: Music and dance have a special place in the culture of Gujjars. They sing traditional songs and dance on special occasions. Animal husbandry: Gujjars usually do animal husbandry, especially sheep and goats. This is an important part of their livelihood. These characteristics of the Gujjar community make their life unique and reflect their cultural heritage.
