Today, Karel Šíp is one of our most popular presenters, but he entered the world of show business exactly half a century ago as a bassist, bandleader and lyricist of the band Faraon. For this, he wrote his first text, for the composition Šlapací kolo, which was a successful remake of a song by the Australian band The Mixtures. During his time in Faraon, however, he also discovered the talent of Jiří Schellinger, who later recorded probably his biggest hit Holubí dům with this group. Karel Šíp subsequently became a sought-after lyricist for the first league stars of Czech pop music and also the creator of music programs called Hitšaráda, which he presented on the screens of Czechoslovak Television in a pair with Jaroslav Uhlíř. And although this program was created essentially by accident, thanks to it, musicians such as Prague Selection, Jana Kratochvílová or the Tango group also appeared on the screens in the 70s and 80s. How does he remember the moment when he first heard Jiří Schellinger sing? Why did he hang up his bass guitar after a few years and go into TV entertainment? And which of his approximately five hundred texts is he most proud of? Watch the full interview.
