Kamil Střihavka entered the scene in the 1980s with the Teplice power metal band Motorband, but in the 1990s he became one of the most successful not only rock singers in the Czech Republic. This was partly due to the two albums he recorded with colleagues Ota Balag and Michal Pavlíček as part of the BSP project, but also to his participation in the legendary Czech adaptation of the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar. In this role, he was one of the best “Jesuses” ever, according to the owners of the international rights to this performance, and his performance in London was also at stake. On Air, we talked to Kamil Střihavka, who is currently preparing his own show for Czech Television called Ikony Kamila Střihavka, about, among other things, how he remembers his blues beginnings and how he recovered from a vocal cord disease that had the potential to destroy his promising career. How did he get the role of Jesus? How does he remember meeting Pavlíček and Balag? And how do you sing the double-dashed G? Watch the full interview.
