According to the chief designer of innovative vehicles of the Service of the chief designer of innovative vehicles of the NTC Sergey Nazarenko, KAMAZ-Arktika will be manufactured in two versions: one with a 6x6 wheel arrangement and the second – 8x8. The first version has already been presented at the exhibition in Moscow. The vehicle runs on a classic KAMAZ V8 engine and is equipped with a manual transmission. The vehicle will be certified as an all-terrain vehicle. This is a completely new development in terms of design - KAMAZ has never created such vehicles before. The maximum speed of the KAMAZ-Arktika is no more than 50 km / h, the load capacity is 13 tons. The second vehicle with an 8x8 wheel arrangement, equipped with an R6 power unit and a K5 cabin, as well as an automatic transmission, should appear at the end of 2018. According to the conditions, to work in the regions of the Far North and the Arctic, the vehicle must function at temperatures of minus 50-60 degrees, move in complete off-road conditions. The key feature of the KAMAZ-Arktika all-terrain vehicle is the articulated frame: the vehicle turns not due to the wheels, but due to the "breaking" frame. This decision is caused by the dimensions of the wheels: they are very wide on the all-terrain vehicle, not providing sufficient resource for turning. Special, wide tires are another feature of the KAMAZ-Arktika. They solve the problem of cross-country ability in special climatic conditions and on unstable soils: swampy areas, tundra, firn snow. The tires are also available in two sizes: the "Oversized" version - more than 1000 mm wide and the "Gabarit" version - 700 mm wide. The first option is designed for movement on soils with low bearing capacity. The second allows the car to fit into the parameters permitted by traffic rules in order to move on public roads. Thanks to these qualities, the KAMAZ-Arktika can act as an alphamobile - a vehicle that leads a column of other cars, leading ordinary trucks. The ground clearance of the car is 677 mm. In addition, the vehicle is equipped with a residential module - a full-fledged living space in which you can live or wait for help in the harshest climatic conditions for at least three days. The module has sleeping places, a shower and toilet, a microwave oven, a heater, a supply of water, a washbasin, a refrigerator, a TV, a satellite phone, a cooktop, and an electric generator. Additionally, the residential module is equipped with air conditioners that can isolate the inhabitants of the module from midges, mosquitoes, and gnats. There is no doubt about the competitiveness of the new KAMAZ vehicle. As the developers of KAMAZ-Arktika assure, their brainchild, in comparison with other Russian developments, has a number of key advantages, such as the viability of the design and high traction dynamic qualities of the vehicle. The vehicle is currently in Naberezhnye Chelny: test runs are being conducted on the territory of the Scientific and Technical Center. At the beginning of summer, KAMAZ-Arktika will appear at exhibitions, and then go to the cold regions of the country to undergo testing in the conditions of the Far North.
