Hernandes Dias Lopes says that justification is a legal, forensic, judicial, and declaratory act of God in which he declares, on the basis of Christ's righteousness, that all the demands of the law are satisfied with respect to the sinner. Justification is not something that God does in us, but for us. It does not happen within us, but outside of us. Justification is an act and happens only once. There are no degrees in justification. Man is either completely justified or not justified at all. It is instantaneous, complete, and final. Through justification we are redeemed from the penalty of sin, forgiven, and receive God's favor.
