Created on September 22, 1992, to protect 26,250.47 hectares of Atlantic Forest, its location contributes to the protection of the Alto Juquiá Basin, water production in its Buffer Zone for the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo, four hydroelectric plants within its boundaries, and the environmental services provided are clear.
