A woman in her 30s travels around Hokkaido by train <DAY3 Abashiri> This trip is a 4-night, 5-day trip around Hokkaido using a JR Hokkaido all-you-can-ride ticket. On the third day, we board the rapid train Shiretoko Mashu from Kushiro. The train runs through the magnificent Kushiro Marshlands and heads for Abashiri, the city of drift ice, surrounded by scenic scenery. On the way, we have to take a special bus due to track maintenance, and after about 4 hours of train and bus swaying, we arrive at Abashiri, about 150km north from Kushiro. Abashiri is located on the northeast coast of Hokkaido, a port town with a thriving fishing industry. We pass through a long shopping street and head to the roadside station "Drift Ice Highway Abashiri". Let's taste the bounty of Okhotsk, and of course we have seafood bowls here! We also gulp down some local beer! After filling our stomachs and hearts, we head to that inn on the shores of Lake Abashiri before the sun goes down.
