About :

Excerpts from the book “Talks with American Students” by Jiddu Krishnamurti. Jiddu Krishnamurti (1895-1986) was a renowned Indian philosopher and thinker, recognized for his unique insights into spirituality and self-transformation. Krishnamurti spent his life traveling the world, lecturing and writing, always focused on a profound search for freedom and truth. Krishnamurti emphasized the importance of self-inquiry and freedom from dogma and external authority. He argued that truth is a pathless land and that each individual must explore his or her own mind to find liberation. His teachings addressed themes such as self-knowledge, meditation as mindfulness, and the dissolution of the ego. He rejected the idea of spiritual teachers, insisting that each person is responsible for his or her own inner journey. Jiddu Krishnamurti is widely considered one of the greatest spiritual thinkers of the 20th century. His ideas influenced psychology, education, and philosophy. His legacy lives on through his foundations, books, and speeches. ???? Get Jiddu Krishnamurti’s books through our Amazon link: https://amzn.to/4j8T94f ???? The body, the organism, like any machine in constant use, must eventually wear out, come to an end. Most of us unfortunately die of old age or disease without knowing what it is to die. There is the problem of old age, and for us old age is a horror. I don’t know if you have ever noticed how in autumn a leaf falls from a tree, what a beautiful color, how full of beauty and kindness, and yet it is so easily, so passively destroyed. Whereas with us as we grow older – well, look at us! The ugliness, the disfigurement, the pretensions! Observe it in yourself! And because we do not live right either in youth or in middle age, old age becomes a huge problem. The fact is that we never really live, because we are afraid, afraid of living and afraid of dying, and as we grow old, everything happens to us; so that is one of our greatest problems. The physical organism, through constant use, strain and so on, will inevitably deteriorate, through disease, accident or old age. How strange it is that we should be so afraid of old age. That is what we are, isn’t it? And as we grow old, how ugly we become, how we cover ourselves with jewels, with fancy hairdos and pretend that we are young again. There is great sadness in all this, because it means that we have never lived, nor do we know what it is to live, and therefore we are afraid of old age. So is it possible, psychologically, to die to all that we have known?” Jiddu Krishnamurti. “Let us therefore find out what it means to die, knowing full well that the organism must come to an end, and knowing also that the mind, in its despair at its end, will inevitably seek comfort and hope in some theory, some belief. So let us not escape from the fact by some theory, but face it without fear. To understand what death is, the mind must be completely free from fear. It must be in a state where it says to itself, 'I do not know' - and does not seek or desire any answer. That is the state free from the known. Then you will see, if you come to that, all idea of continuity ceases altogether. The mind dies to all its petty anxieties, appetites, envies, vanities - it dies to all these at once. Only when there is an end can there be a new beginning. With the 'end of the past' something totally new dawns." Jiddu Krishnamurti. "What we call 'thought' gives the mind the idea of continuity - and that is what 'psychological time' is, because all thought is the result of our conditioning, our memory, our experience. Every challenge calls forth a 'response' from that background, and that response is thought 'in action'; therefore there is no spontaneity, there is never any 'response' that is free from the past. But when our thinking, our greed, our envy, our ambition and thirst for power, the whole psychological structure of society, which constitutes the 'I', comes to an end - when all this comes to an end, for no reason at all, then the mind is in a state of 'not knowing', completely empty; and only then is there death.” Jiddu Krishnamurti.
