The riding school of the École Militaire, built in 1756, is one of the oldest in France. The head squire was Jacques Aimable d'Auvergne, considered the founder of French military riding. He taught the young Napoleon Bonaparte there, among others. The riding school now has 80 horses and as many saddles to discover in the tack room, where the one used by Marshal Alphonse Juin is particularly prominent.
