JWs believe: a) that the words Sheol and Hades refer to the common grave of humanity: Sheol and Hades do not refer to a place of torment, but to the common grave of humanity. Both good and bad people go to Sheol or Hades (“You Can Live Forever in Paradise on Earth.” Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, p. 83/7). b) that the punishment that the wicked will receive will be eternal non-existence. Men will simply cease to exist: So what is 'the lake of fire' mentioned in the biblical book of Revelation? It has a similar meaning to Gehenna. It does not mean conscious torment, but rather death or eternal destruction (“You Can Live Forever in Paradise on Earth.” Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, p. 87/15). They mock hell by saying: HELL, Resting Place in Hope, the title of a chapter in the book “Let God Be True”. Apologetic Response: The Bible declares that the natural man does not understand the things of the Spirit of God, because they seem foolish to him; and he cannot understand them because they are spiritually discerned (1 Cor 2:14). JWs argue that hell as a place of conscious torment cannot exist because it is contrary to the love of God (1 John 4:8). However, highlighting the qualities of the true God, they teach that He revealed His justice by inflicting punishment against obstinate opponents and oppressors of His people (“Knowledge That Leads to Eternal Life”, p. 27/14). They also affirm that God does not cease to be the God of love because he loves justice (Ps 37:28) by punishing the enemies of his people (Dt 7:1-3). On the contrary, they say, God's love for justice has a corresponding part in the hatred of iniquity. In this way, God's order to kill all the residents of Canaan, including pregnant women and minor children, is justified (1 Sam 15:1-3). We also believe this way. God does not send anyone to hell out of sadism, on the contrary, his love for man was proven when he sent his Son Jesus Christ to free us from condemnation (John 3:16-18). Man goes to hell because he despises God's favor for his salvation (2 Peter 3:9). Paul states in 1 Cor 11:22 that we must consider two attributes of God: his goodness and his severity. While they deny hell because they consider it incompatible with the love of God, they do not stop warning people in their door-to-door walks about the catastrophic danger of Armageddon. Look at Armageddon! Look at Armageddon! JWs fear Armageddon more than hell. We admit hell and do not fear Armageddon, because we believe that the Church of Jesus will be raptured before Armageddon (Revelation 3:10). For Christians, witnesses of Jesus, there is no longer any condemnation (Romans 8:1).
