Brittany at the beginning of the 9th century resembles a wasp's nest that has been kicked up. While the Celtic inhabitants yearn for independence, the Frankish Empire led by Charlemagne does not intend to lose its westernmost island. But the rebellious landowner Judaël subordinated everything to the dream of freedom, even the safety of his family and his subjects. At the time when he and his retinue of the most loyal are seeking help from the Earl of Ashford, Frankish soldiers are landing on the coast of Brittany and bloodshed is imminent. Only Judaël's left-hand man Yannig, who is hiding in the nearby rocks to avoid being taken as a hostage of honor to Charles's court, knows that everything is different and that the Franks only landed after the Viking drake was wrecked in the bay. With no idea who he can trust, he must play a game for his own life, as the enemy could be anyone - even his half-brother. Bastard Yannig soon learns that the price for a chance to one day sit on his father's throne is not calculated in round gold, but in the lives of friends and family. And to make matters worse, an ancient evil awakens in the rocks, which has been waiting for its opportunity since the boy's birth...
