Recording of the lecture from the series Fridays from 21.6.2024 on the topic: Why do people perceive ghosts and apparitions? Feeling that one is not alone through the lens of predictive processing theory. Most of us have experienced the feeling that we are not alone - we hear strange noises around us, we feel as if someone is watching us, lightly touching us or walking around us. Can our minds and bodies create these feelings purely based on the environment we find ourselves in (such as darkness, silence, and solitude)? How are they related to our previous expectations, and can they be induced purposefully, with the help of practices that help us complete the expected sensory perceptions? In the lecture, I will focus on the presentation of my two recent researches, the so-called sense of presence and is general with regard to the wider theoretical and cultural context. Lecturer: Mgr. Jana Nenadalová, Ph.D. (Laboratory for Experimental Research of Religion FF MUNI), is dedicated to researching special human experiences, commonly referred to as religious, spiritual, mystical, psychedelic and others. She is interested in what general evolutionarily developed cognitive mechanisms enable the emergence of such experiences and how they are linked to the processes of cultural learning and socialization. Last but not least, he also asks what is the significance of experiencing religious experiences from the point of view of evolution. The main theoretical framework of her research is the so-called the theory of predictive evaluation, i.e. the cognitive-computational theory of human consciousness and perception. Her main research method is experiment. However, in order to better understand the lived social and cultural context of religious experiences, he also conducts field research into the practice of contemporary alternative spirituality. He has always adhered to this ethical principle and has a strong will to keep it that way, not only out of respect for the presenters and performers, who are the main creators of the content, but also out of a higher moral principle. Until recently, the channel operated in this way was hosted on YouTube without added ads, and when this policy changed, I at least hoped that if the profit generated in this way is attributed only to a third party, i.e. the administrator / owner of this medium, the amount of unintentionally uploaded content would be at a reasonable and acceptable level . Unfortunately, this is not the case, and I'm afraid that no distinction is even made between paid and non-paid channels. So far I don't even know of any way to avoid embedded ads in any acceptable way or at least reduce them to an acceptable level. I definitely don't want to support this paradigm, that's why I don't even encourage you to subscribe to a service, e.g. YouTube Premium (CZK 179 / month), which allows you to watch videos without ads. If anyone can think of a reasonable solution, I would be very happy for any advice, e.g. to the email listed in the LLionTV end log of most of this creator's videos.
