Peio Oria is a meteorologist, PhD in Physics. After working for several years at Aemet in Navarra, he is currently Head of the Disaster Risk Reduction Department at the company Tecnisor. This curiosity talk was given by Peio Oria at CIVICAN in Pamplona on December 13, 2024. Here is the summary: It is a scientific fact that extreme meteorological phenomena have increased significantly, as a result of living on a planet 1.5ºC warmer than 150 years ago. Currently, the rate of global warming is higher than in the last million years, which guarantees that these phenomena will increase and intensify even more in the coming decades. In addition, the southwest of Europe is one of the critical points for the occurrence of heat waves and forest fires. Therefore, the talk examines the following: 1. How we detect these trends thanks to measurements, satellite observations or models. 2. What are these phenomena that are exacerbated by climate change. 3. How to prepare and adapt better for the future. Jakin-mina is a conference series aimed at 4th grade students of Secondary Education, offering a conference every month between November and March, on Fridays at 5:30 pm. Participants must register at the school to attend the five sessions, even though it is an extracurricular activity. Any young person who is interested can register. Jakin-mina is a project organized by Jakiunde. The cycle, organized in Navarre, Pamplona and Tudela, has the support of the Department of Universities, Innovation and Digital Transformation of the Government of Navarre, as well as the Caja Navarra Foundation. At the same time, it has the collaboration of UPNA/NUP and the University of Navarre.
