María González Audicana has a PhD in Agricultural Engineering and is a professor in the Department of Agroforestry Engineering at the Public University of Navarra (UPNA/NUP). This Jakin-mina conference is part of the Tudela series, which takes place on the UPNA/NUP campus and was given on December 13, 2024. Synopsis: Did you know that satellite images can be key to monitoring and surveillance of forests and crops? This conference presents the European Earth observation program Copernicus and, in particular, the Sentinel-2 satellites. We talk about their characteristics and how, thanks to the images they acquire, it is possible to study forest stands, identify areas affected by pests or drought, evaluate the severity of fires and detect unauthorized felling or clearing. In addition, the talk explores how these images make it possible to identify agricultural crops, evaluate their development and even estimate their production, continuously over time, and in any area of the world. Jakin-mina is a series of five lectures aimed at 4th year ESO students. The lectures are given from November to March, once a month, on Fridays, at 5:30 p.m. Organised by Jakiunde, the Pamplona and Tudela series are sponsored by the Department of University, Innovation and Digital Transformation of the Government of Navarra, as well as the Caja Navarra Foundation. It also has the collaboration of the UPNA/NUP and the University of Navarra.
