This toll road is part of the Trans Java Toll Road on the southern segment connecting Jakarta with Surabaya via Banyumas. Construction of this toll road began in 2020 from the direction of Solo. This toll road is built elevated along the North Ring Road of Yogyakarta (except at the intersection of Jalan Monumen Jogja Kembali/ Palagan Tentara Pelajar which will be made on grade), then continues along Selokan Mataram to the interchange in the Maguwoharjo area. This toll road will continue to YIA Kulon Progo Airport which stretches from the Sleman Junction for 35.74 km. This toll road is expected to facilitate access from YIA Kulon Progo Airport to Yogyakarta. In order to support the Government's program in providing toll road infrastructure in the southern region of Java Island, PT Jasa Marga Jogjasolo (PT JMJ) was formed, which is a Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT) consortium of four companies: PT Daya Mulia Turangga (DMT), PT Gama Group, PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk, and PT Adhi Karya (Persero) Tbk (ADHI). PT Jasamarga Jogja Solo has won the tender for investment in the business, and signed a toll road business agreement contract for the Solo-Yogyakarta-YIA Kulon Progo section, with the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) on September 9, 2020. The Solo-Yogyakarta-YIA Kulon Progo toll road itself is one of the National Strategic Projects (PSN) based on Presidential Decree Number 3 of 2016, Presidential Decree Number 56 of 2018 and the latest amendment to Presidential Decree Number 109 of 2020. The realization of the Solo-Yogyakarta-YIA Kulon Progo toll road is considered special because it connects two cultural cities, namely Surakarta and Yogyakarta. In addition, this project has received high attention from the Central Government and Regional Governments because it is considered very strategic as one of the solutions for efficient mobility and distribution in the southern region of Java Island.[2] Of the 22 km functional section of the Jogja-Solo Toll Road, 13 km of the two sections have been completed, while the remaining 9 km only have one lane that has been paved. However, PT JMJ guarantees that the functional route is safe for the public. So with a longer route, we hope to provide more optimal service to the public because this functional route can be an alternative route to avoid traffic congestion that often occurs at the Kartasura Delanggu Monument and the Solo-Yogyakarta Highway. The Jogja-Solo Toll Road Package 1.1, the Kartasura-Klaten section, spanning 22.3 km, was inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, on September 19, 2024, and officially began operating on September 20, 2024.
