AFP. By Jean-Claude Bringuier. With Jacques Marsal. Director: Jacques Taroni. Presentation of the Nuits de France Culture: “It is September 12, 1940. The scene takes place in a corner of the forest, near the village of Montignac in the Périgord Noir. Four teenagers want to fight others and are looking for a secret passage to an old abandoned manor. That's how, by chance, they discover a cave hidden from view. These four boys were the first to lay eyes on the drawings that other men, some 17,000 years earlier, had painted on the walls of this place that would soon be called the Lascaux cave. The story of this discovery is almost as famous as the cave itself, almost as beautiful too: because they were children, because they were playing, because it was war, because they said nothing at first - wanting to keep their find to themselves - and perhaps also because one of them became its guardian. His name was Jacques Marsal. In 1980, he recounted his memories to Jean-Claude Bringuier for three episodes of the show “Nous tous, chacun”. The story of the discovery, of course, but also the path by which he was led to dedicate his life to this place. “We all, each one: Jacques, guide and guardian of the Lascaux caves”, three programs broadcast on September 29, 30 and October 1, 1980. » Source: France Culture #Lascaux #ParietalArt #Prehistory #Paleolithic #Discovery #LascauxCave #Montignac #PérigordNoir #Dordogne #JacquesMarsal #Guide #Guardian #Archaeology #HenriBreuil #Interviews #JeanClaudeBringuier #WeAllEach #FranceCulture
