To clean the glass of a fireplace insert, use soda crystals. They degrease and clean, without being toxic to the environment. In a basin of hot water, mix 2 liters of water and 6 tablespoons of soda crystals. Add a few drops of dishwashing liquid: by making the mixture foam, it prevents the mixture from running too quickly on the glass and gives the soda crystals time to act. Rub the glass with a non-abrasive sponge. If necessary, leave to act for a few minutes. Rinse with clean water and dry with a soft cloth. For daily maintenance, clean the glass regularly while it is still warm. To do this, roll a sheet of newspaper into a ball. Dampen it and dip it in the finest ash. Rub. It's clean! The ash particles gently polish the glass and remove dirt. Finish by rubbing with a dry sheet of newspaper. You will use it to light the next fire.
