The first trial verdict for the Public Official Election Act violation case against Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, will be announced today (the 15th). The core of this case is the suspicion that Lee made false statements regarding the suspicion of preferential treatment in the change of use of the Korea Food Research Institute in Baekhyeon-dong and the late Kim Moon-ki, former head of the Development Division 1 of Seongnam Urban Development Corporation, when he was the Democratic Party's presidential candidate in 2021. The prosecution believes that Lee publicly stated that he did not know about former head Kim, who had worked for him as a business practitioner for a long time, because he was a lower-ranking employee, in order to distance himself from the 'Daejang-dong suspicions' that suddenly emerged as an issue around the fall of 2021 ahead of the presidential election. In addition, the prosecution believes that Lee violated Article 250, Paragraph 1 of the Public Official Election Act by making false statements during the state audit in order to block the controversy over preferential treatment given to private businesses in Daejang-dong regarding the Baekhyeon-dong Food Research Institute site. The relevant provision stipulates that anyone who publishes false information about a candidate's status, occupation, career, property, or actions in a speech, broadcast, newspaper, etc. for the purpose of getting elected or causing them to get elected is subject to imprisonment for up to 5 years or a fine of up to 30 million won. There are observations that the conflict between the ruling and opposition parties will intensify after the sentencing on this day. If the first trial court sentences Representative Lee to a fine of 1 million won or more, which is equivalent to invalidating the election, Representative Lee's leadership is expected to take a hit to some extent as the legal risk becomes a reality. ☞ Subscribe to MBN YouTube ☞ https://goo.gl/6ZsJGT 📢 MBN YouTube Community https://www.youtube.com/user/mbn/comm...
