Israel and Hamas have reached an agreement on a ceasefire in the Gaza war. Hamas will release some of the Israeli hostages in exchange for a temporary ceasefire and the release of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails. The ceasefire will take effect on Sunday, January 19. According to Israel correspondent Ralph Dekkers, the news was received with mixed feelings. In his farewell speech, outgoing US President Joe Biden warned of a 'dangerous concentration' of 'technology, power and wealth'. In a clear reference to his successor Donald Trump, Biden said that 'an oligarchy is taking over America'. Biden also claimed the success of the ceasefire in Gaza, which Trump had done before.
