A newsletter from me, Abdulrahman Abu Maleh, and the Fنجان team, to our close podcast audience. https://thmanyah.link/6dfd5a If Ibn Hazm was asked what the main purpose of every human being in any society and in any era is, he would say to remove worry. We all go through sad stages and moments. Sometimes these stages are long, and for some people, the impact of moments of sadness is great on them and those around them. The guest of this episode is the author of the famous book, translated into several languages, about sadness, and reached the hearts of millions. Dr. Ayedh Al-Qarni, and a new reading of the book "Do Not Be Sad", after it was published 20 years ago. We first touched on the nature of isolation and the difference between it and solitude, what is the desired effect of it, and for what purpose a person isolates himself. Dr. Ayedh believes that if you do not allocate time in your day, or even long periods of time, to isolate yourself, you will not produce or accomplish any lasting work. Our conversation extended to the concept of sadness, which my guest believes has become complicated. So how do we deal with sadness, especially since we live in a time where all the stimuli of sadness and depression have become more. Social networks and their algorithms, celebrities and comparing our lives to theirs, emptiness, preoccupation with the past, thinking and worrying about the future. We also touched on the effect of sadness on creativity, as many great works were the result of tragedy and suffering. Al-Mutanabbi says, “If it weren’t for hardship, all people would be masters... Generosity impoverishes and courage is fighting.” Abu Abdullah is a fan of Al-Mutanabbi, and says that one verse of Al-Mutanabbi’s poetry is better than Shawqi’s brothers, sons, aunts, uncles, and neighbors.
