The key thing you need to understand is the effect of exposure, which is capturing the image with a certain amount of light (this is also called “Exposure Value”). Ideally, the image should be properly exposed, meaning it should have the ideal amount of light where you can see all the detail in the highlights and shadows. However, there is no absolute right or wrong in photography exposure, as the artistic choice for many photographers is to capture an underexposed or overexposed image. For now, we’ll focus on the elements of capturing a correct exposure. Exposure also has other effects on the final look of the image, such as depth of field, motion capture, and digital noise.
