Guillaume Cuchet is an academic and historian specializing in contemporary Catholicism. He is the author, in particular, of two landmark books: How did our world cease to be Christian? and Does Catholicism still have a future in France. On this Pentecost weekend marked by the pilgrimages to Chartres, he analyzes the decline of Catholicism in France, its causes and consequences. He emphasizes that this religion, which has shaped our country for centuries, could very quickly become a minority. He notes, however, several areas of dynamism for Christianity in France which, in his words, form a "horseshoe", with two very different categories of population: an urban bourgeoisie and a part of the suburban immigration, resistant to Islam. The hollow of this "horseshoe" is the French middle classes, from which the RN electorate more or less comes: they are of Christian culture but deeply secularized, have forgotten everything about the faith of their ancestors. Will the rise of Islam - on the verge of becoming the majority religion - spur them on enough to reawaken this ancient faith or, on the contrary, will they switch to an intransigent secularism? This is a crucial question for the future of Catholicism in France. ???? Join us on our various social networks: ???? Our Instagram account @bvoltaire.fr https://www.instagram.com/bvoltaire.f... ????
