Isabel San Sebastián, a sharp-eyed journalist and writer of solid and captivating narrative, does not stop at easy answers. She never has. As an author, she has accumulated fifteen books (four essays and eleven novels). Daughter of a diplomat, she had a nomadic childhood and her great friends – those who accompanied her without fail in all those years of childhood – were books. Since then, she has been an avid reader, especially of Albert Camus and essays. First there were communist essays, read with the fervor of someone seeking to understand a world that has not yet discovered its deceptions. Then came the historical texts. Now, those dedicated to the Reconquista, an era that Isabel dissects with the precision of someone who knows that history is not the past, but a mirror. In her work she has stood out for her lucid gaze and her critical, combative word, faithful to her thought, free, without conditions, sides or programs. There has been no threat or ostracism capable of making her back down. Very disciplined (she says perhaps too much), she has always put duty before pleasure and confesses that, at this point in her life, she regrets it a little. But that righteousness defines her as much as her fierce independence.
