How to check the expansion tank cap. As you know, the cap on the tank is very important. It regulates the atmospheric pressure in the cooling system. Is the engine boiling? Check the cap. Is the excess pressure emitted by antifreeze or coolant? Check the cap, or rather its valves. The cap has two valves. This is a steam (outlet) valve that releases excess pressure of more than 1.2 - 1.5 atmospheres. On some cars, the readings may differ. And a vacuum inlet valve that removes the vacuum as soon as the coolant cools down and decreases in volume. A violation of the expansion tank cap's tightness leads to early boiling of coolant or antifreeze. A faulty outlet valve can rupture the pipes and radiator (heater, cooling). And a faulty inlet valve creates a vacuum during cooling, which sucks air into the system. After which air locks are formed, the circulation of the coolant is disrupted.
