On Wednesday the 15th, Qatari and US authorities announced the conclusion of a truce agreement between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, after more than 15 months of war that left tens of thousands of Palestinians dead. The agreement provides for the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners and the evacuation of Gaza. The announcement comes less than a week before Donald Trump's inauguration as US president — and an envoy of the president-elect played an important role in pressuring Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to accept the agreement.
