How did these sketches come about? The playwright's son tells that the father, Ion Băieșu, was the deputy editor-in-chief at "Scânteia Tineretului" and, among other things, was also in charge of the matrimonial announcements page. Every month he received hundreds of letters, each more absurd than the other. Reading those letters, he came to outline these two characters, about which he wrote several sketches, entitled "Love is a very big thing". Then, in the 60s, a friend from Television proposed to him to make a series of sketches for a Sunday show. This is how "Tanța și Costel" was born, which would be performed by Octavian Cotescu and Coca Andronescu. Costel is a cattle buyer. Every day he goes on the route Lehliu, Medgidia, Crevedia, Babadag... One day, in a train station, he meets a serious girl, a cashier at a grocery store, who corresponds both physically and in character. After 5 minutes of discussion, over a small drink and a beer, the two very serious people realize how similar their principles of life are and decide to get married. A few other skits follow: the hitchhiker, the discussion about vacation or the sketch about New Year's Eve.
