THE TRANSFORMER In this first part we will deal with modifying a toroidal transformer to adjust it to the necessary characteristics of this project: The steps to follow are basically these: 1. Determine the power of the core based on its area 2. Remove the secondary windings leaving the primary of 220/125 3. Wind a test winding of 10 turns 4. Measure induced voltage in that 10-turn winding 5. Use the rule of 3 to deduce how many turns will be necessary for a winding for 12, 24, 36 or 48 volts 6. Consult a table to choose a thickness of wire to wind 7. Make the winding 8. Test the transformer 9.
