This three-part tutorial series deals with the topics of "intellectual property" and "patent research". The tutorials are particularly intended to support researchers in the first steps on the path from invention to company founding. They also provide useful information for employees of the transfer offices of research institutions. The first video introduces the topic of "intellectual property" and the basics of patent research. You will learn what IP is, how a patent application is processed and how patent documents are structured. You will also learn why there are reasons to research patent literature. In the second and third videos we will then show you how to conduct a patent search using different tools. The series is supplemented by an introduction to the basics of the new EU unitary patent. The information in these tutorials is training material and does not replace legal advice. No liability is accepted for the accuracy and completeness of the information. The tutorial series was created as part of the project "Using research results through visual patent retrieval" (ExpResViP), which the Leibniz Association carried out together with the German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB), the Fraunhofer Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems (IAIS) and the University of Hildesheim.
