This program was planned and produced over the course of a year to present viewers with life, healing, and the beauty of living with nature through the four seasons of beautiful gardens and the stories of the people who create them. ■ Her Hidden Garden - Korea's First Wildflower Garden There is a secret garden on the shore of Serang Lake in Osan-si, Gyeonggi-do. It is the wildflower garden of Ahn Hongseon (83), who has been tending to the garden for over 40 years. The 800 species of flowers and trees that fill the garden change their beauty every moment. Ahn Hong-sun's wildflower garden, which she started because she couldn't forget the wildflowers that filled the backyard of her house when she was a child in her hometown of Hamgyeong Province. Her garden, which she worked on for decades, has become a beautiful garden that won the 2006 Beautiful Garden Private House Award. The backyard of her hometown house was so vivid that she started growing wildflowers. That house was truly beautiful. I will never forget it. Ahn Hong-sun (83) said: ■A garden, a space that heals with life Nothing is beautiful from the beginning. This wildflower garden was no exception. She moved to the lakeside wasteland and planted wildflowers one by one. Thanks to her care, which she took seeds and divided the plants, she was able to complete a garden that is like a meadow that is hard to find anywhere else. Until this day, Ahn Hong-sun (83) always had a sickle in her hand. She worked under the sun all day without makeup, so she had freckles, but she thought of it as flowers blooming on her face. Born with a weak constitution and prone to illness, she says that the blessings of sunlight and the healing gifts of flowers have given her her current healthy life. ■Garden, gifting inspiration The garden has not only been a source of inspiration for Ahn Hong-sun’s health, but also for her quilts and poetry. Her garden diary, written for over 20 years, contains poems about her life with flowers, and her works, called “story quilts,” are full of garden stories. Ahn Hong-sun is happy with flowers today thanks to her husband who silently takes care of her wife, who devotes her life to the garden and the flower chickens that add life to the garden.
