Contemporary witness and Holocaust survivor Ivar Buterfas-Frankenthal reports on his experiences during National Socialism. The time in which survivors of the Shoah can report is limited. This makes it all the more important to preserve their testimonies - even if it cannot replace personal encounters. In autumn 2021 we visited Ivar Buterfas-Frankenthal in the Lüneburg Heath. He grew up in the 1930s as the son of a Jewish father in Hamburg. Shortly after starting school in 1938, he was thrown out of school. The reason: there was no place for Jews there. He talked to us in an interview about how he survived the time afterwards. We would like to thank the Samson Foundation for their support.
