Since 1980, the Los Libertadores International Pass has had this three-kilometer-long route, which considerably improved connectivity and crossing times across the Andes mountain range. Chile has 34 authorized border crossings or complexes, from the Arica and Parinacota Region to the Magallanes Region and Chilean Antarctica. The main and most important is located in the Valparaíso Region, the Los Libertadores International Pass or also known as the Cristo Redentor International Pass. Located at more than 3,000 meters above sea level, it connects Los Andes and Mendoza, in Argentina. Long before being an established border crossing as it is today, this area witnessed more than two centuries ago one of the greatest feats ever recorded between Chile and the continent, the so-called Crossing of the Andes. Led by Argentine general José de San Martín and Bernardo O'Higgins, the Army of the Andes, made up of more than 5,000 Argentine and Chilean soldiers, crossed the Andes Mountains for two months. This culminated in the Battle of Chacabuco, a key process in the Independence of Chile. Between December 12, 1816 and February 8, 1817, the Army of the Andes, led by José de San Martín and Bernardo O'Higgins, crossed the Andes Mountains. During the 20th century, the route between Chile and Argentina through this border crossing became more frequent; in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, families made long trips to Mendoza by land on very basic roads. #verona #vicenza #vicenzaitaly #plane #airport #europe #takeoff #landing #netherlands #amsterdam #seville #sevillacity #spain #2k #shortsviral #2000 #1ksubscribers #1kcreator #1000k #argentina #1kcreators #1millionviews #mirador #2k #shortsviral #2000 #1ksubscribers #1kcreator #1000k #argentina #1kcreators #1millionviews #nazari #granada #La Alhambra #pueblosblancos #2k #shortsviral #1000k #shortsviral #1ksubscribers #1millionviews #2k #2000 #shortsviral #1ksubscribers #1000k #1millionviews #Argentina #Spain #italy #andalusia #marbella #shortsviral #trains #catalunya #malaga #siena #venice #medieval #railway #roman #middleages #Rome #malaga #castle #nerja #train #trains #railways #railway #cathedral #Florence #fiorenza #Chile #libertadores #internationalpassage #cristoredentortunnel #sangeminian #tuscany #murano #burano Then in January 1977 the Los Libertadores Border Complex began to operate, this brought a certain degree of modernization to the border crossing. Three years later, in 1980 (40 years ago) the Cristo Redentor Tunnel was inaugurated. With 3.08 kilometers long, half corresponds to Chile and the other half to Argentina. It was a great contribution to the land route between both countries, and the main connection with Argentina and the continent. More than one and a half million people pass through it annually.
