The International Criminal Court in The Hague has issued arrest warrants for Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu, former Israeli Defense Minister Galant and the military chief of the terrorist organization Hamas Al-Masri (Deif). It is uncertain whether he is still alive. The judges in The Hague thus agreed to a request made by Chief Prosecutor Khan on May 20. The International Criminal Court announced that there was sufficient suspicion that Netanyahu and Galant each bear criminal responsibility as accomplices for several crimes. These included starvation as a method of warfare, murder and persecution. In addition, both are said to have withheld essential goods from the civilian population, such as food, water, medicine, medical supplies, fuel and electricity. They had obstructed humanitarian aid in violation of international humanitarian law, according to the International Criminal Court. Hamas representative Al-Masri is accused of hostage-taking and other war crimes in connection with Hamas' attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. The International Criminal Court is an independent court and therefore relies on the cooperation of the 124 member states to enforce the arrest warrants. Israel does not recognize the International Criminal Court. What does the arrest warrant mean for Netanyahu? What impact does the arrest warrant have on the actions of other countries? What power does the verdict have? ZDFheute spoke live about this with legal scholar Prof. Stefanie Bock from the University of Marburg. #israel #netanyahu #gaza
