The leaders of the two Koreas met at the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) in Panmunjom on the morning of the 27th, and the historic “2018 Inter-Korean Summit” began. At around 9:30 AM that day, President Moon Jae-in warmly welcomed North Korean State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong-un, who came down to the South for the summit, on the MDL in Panmunjom. Chairman Kim, who appeared at Panmungak on the North Korean side of Panmunjom, walked across the MDL between T2 and T3, the Military Armistice Commission conference rooms that span the MDL, and President Moon waited there and shook Chairman Kim’s hand vigorously. This is the first time that the leaders of the two Koreas have met at the MDL, and it is also the first time that a North Korean leader has set foot on South Korean soil. The two leaders will hold an official welcoming ceremony, including an official inspection of the military honor guard, and then hold a friendly conversation at the Peace House before starting the full-scale summit at 10:30 AM in the conference room on the second floor.
