We talked about integrated therapies with Dr. Stefano Magno, Head of the Integrated Therapies Service at the Policlinico Agostino Gemelli in Rome, who explained to us how important it is that integrated therapies are combined with traditional therapies such as chemotherapy, biological or immunotherapeutic drugs, surgery and radiotherapy to improve the general state of health, increase therapeutic adherence thanks to the reduced discomfort related to symptoms such as nausea, fatigue, insomnia... and also to prevent relapses, since we know that a correct diet and constant physical activity are the first step to avoid a relapse of the disease over time. Dr. Magno explained to us that the first step in an integrated therapy program is a conversation with the patient to understand what her physical and psychological needs are and to frame her metabolic condition, her eating habits, using a simple test such as impedance analysis to evaluate her nutritional status, then suggesting a personalized food and physical activity program, including nutraceutical foods such as ginger or curcumin that have anti-inflammatory properties and can control nausea, including acupuncture and homeopathy where it can improve some symptoms such as insomnia, nausea, fatigue, radiodermatitis... and also proposing massages with foot reflexology, bodymind techniques such as qigong and all those psychophysical supports that must become an integral part of every therapeutic program that wants not only to cure the disease but also to take care of the person.
