We now know that in our Universe nothing is on a human scale; neither sizes, nor distances nor durations. Concerning the measurement of distances, astronomers use several methods: parallax, use of certain types of stars, certain supernovae, etc., with a precision that is all the more difficult to achieve as the objects are far from us. Similarly, it is not easy to grasp the notions of time and lifespan of the different objects that make up our Universe, except by using a few small stratagems. Patrick LECUREUIL Passionate about astronomy and popular science, Patrick LECUREUIL leads the teaching team of the Ferme des Etoiles group.
