Criminal lawyer Inez Weski (1955) was the second guest on VPRO Zomergasten on July 26, 2020. Inez Weski has been a lawyer for more than forty years and, as one of the most experienced criminal lawyers, belongs to the elite of Dutch criminal law. She is currently counsel for Ridouan T., the main suspect in the Marengo liquidation trial. Weski is also the lawyer for Surinamese president and convicted drug dealer Desi Bouterse and Guus Kouwenhoven, accused of war crimes and arms wholesale, whose case is now pending before the European Court. Together with her sister and son, she has an office in Rotterdam. Large, mainly international criminal cases are Weski's specialty. The more complex, the better. No file is too big or too gruesome for her. The legal principle of 'innocent until proven otherwise' is her driving force. Just like her, in her own words, 'scorching drive to score points'. Zomergasten, the VPRO summer classic, is based on a simple yet innovative idea that originated in 1988: when programs are repeated in the summer, ask people with a story to compile their favorite viewing evening and to explain the fragments of their choice in a good conversation. The conversations, the fragments and the interaction between guest and presenter provide controversial television every season. VPRO Zomergasten was awarded an honorary Nipkowschijf in 2014. In 2017, Janine Abbring won the Sonja Barend Award for her interview in Zomergasten with Amsterdam mayor Eberhard van der Laan.
