The film's characters are journalists, editors-in-chief and deputy editors-in-chief, who learned the technique of tightrope walking at their newspapers during the long Kádár era, knowing what the reader expects from the newspaper and what the authorities expect from them. The documentary is a series of stories told by the contributors, Irén Németi, former editor-in-chief of Nők Lapja, Vilmos Faragó, deputy editor-in-chief of Élet és Irodalom, Gábor Paizs, deputy editor-in-chief and then editor-in-chief of Esti Hírlap, and Ernő Lakatos, former deputy chairman of the Information Office. The film is enriched by quotes from the mouths of (press) managers of the Kádár era, found in the archives and on film regarding the management of the press, as well as former newspaper readers who help recall the specifics of the information policy of the time.
