If you're like me and like preserved originality, here at FAZENDA DA TAQUARA you'll fall in love with it. A beautiful farm located in Barra do Piraí, in the interior of Rio de Janeiro. Founded in 1830, it has faithfully preserved its history to this day. The headquarters of Fazenda Taquara was probably built in the 1830s, in a quadrilateral shape, with an internal garden, under the influence of the colonial architecture of Minas Gerais, originating from the 18th century. Its owner, Comendador João Pereira da Silva, had arrived from Portugal in the early 19th century, accompanied by Joaquim José Pereira de Faro – future baron of Rio Bonito. They settled in the region of Barra do Piraí, at the same time that coffee began to be planted in the Paraíba Valley. Tell me in the comments what you liked most about this video. The name Taquara was given by slaves, due to the abundance of a thin bamboo plant on the farm lands, which was given this name. It remains, to this day, under the control of the Comendador's family. With almost two centuries of existence, the headquarters, still in perfect condition, preserves its history, with its original furniture, documents and portraits. The Taquara farm is owned by João Carlos Tadeu Botelho Pereira Streva, a direct descendant, now in the fifth generation, of the Comendador. Another peculiarity of this property is that today it is a center of coffee production, as in the last century, in addition to developing chicken and pig farming activities. The couple João and Ana Maria actively participate in the Cultural Tourism initiatives promoted by the PRESERVALE Institute, there is a guided tour of the farm, which includes an excellent tour of the headquarters and the old slave quarters, with a tasting of delicacies made on the property. Currently, the farm also offers a typical lunch for groups scheduled in advance.
