The documentary film "In the Footsteps of Federik Glavić" was produced in cooperation between the Dubrovnik Audiovisual Center and the Dubrovnik Maritime and Technical School with the support of the Board for Culture and Heritage of the City of Dubrovnik and the Technical Culture Association of the City of Dubrovnik. The filming included fieldwork with high school students and professional associates, along with a series of class lectures at the school with mentors, and audiovisual editing and workshops at the Dubrovnik Center for Children, Youth and Family under the authority of the Board for Education, Sports, Social Welfare and Civil Society of the City of Dubrovnik. "In the Footsteps of Federik Glavić" is a continuation of the school project "In the Footsteps of Dubrovnik Sailors" which began as a pilot filming in 2022/2023 at the Dubrovnik Maritime and Technical School. The first part of the project was called "In the Footsteps of Miha Pracat" and was produced in cooperation with the Dubrovnik Maritime and Technical School, Dubrovnik Libraries, Dubrovnik Museums and the State Archives in Dubrovnik. Students of the Maritime Technical School Dubrovnik (majoring in maritime navigation) with the project leaders, Croatian language teacher Mariela Marković and nautical subject teachers Mara Bošnjak and Miro Boroj, marked the 500th anniversary of the birth of one of the most famous Dubrovnik residents, the seafarer Miho Pracat, with a project. Given that the students learned a lot about the seafaring of their city, as well as its history and culture, as well as many other famous Dubrovnik residents, the idea of continuing the research of famous Dubrovnik seafarers was already born towards the end of the project. Federiko Glavić was born on Šipan in 1847 and is one of the most important figures in the maritime and economic life of Dubrovnik. He earned all his wealth in Chile because he left the island and his home when he was fourteen years old, and throughout his life he invested his acquired assets mainly in maritime affairs. Through his efforts, the Dubrovnik Steamship Line maintained its headquarters in Dubrovnik, and thus the capital remained in the City and its national character was preserved. He also encouraged the creation of the Dubrovnik Commercial Bank, investing capital in the City and its surroundings. The newly established bank made a significant contribution to the development of trade, shipping and the economy in general. He invested in the fleet and modernization of ships throughout his life. In addition to being one of the most important businessmen in Dubrovnik in the 20th century, Federiko Glavić was also one of the great benefactors. He advocated for the arrival of the railway, founded a paint and varnish factory and a number of other innovative things and companies for that time. He died in 1941 and was buried in the Boninovo cemetery in the first large tomb. The students researched various historical sources in museums, libraries and the Archives, and followed the trail of this famous Dubrovnik citizen, and their search and learning were recorded on camera. Through a series of project tasks, students learned about Federik Glavić, but also how to use historical sources, and how a documentary film is made. Working on this project, in addition to Dubrovnik's maritime history, they learned about culture, trade, humanitarian work and the significance of Federik Glavić, as well as the language of film - how to film, frame, edit, create music, and how to combine life, history and art. Students, future sailors, are researchers, actors and film collaborators in this film. _____________________________________________________________________________________ **Royalty free images & videos used in this video are made by creators from Pexels.com: Monstera Production, Mikhail Nilov, Pixabay, Rodolfo Angulo A., Ton Souza, Wladimir Guevara, Jorge Zuniga, Life On Super 8, Ricky Esquivel, Nothing Ahead, Luciann Photography, Giada Modugno, Andreas Schnabl, Cătălin Todosia, Tarik Deliomerovic, Coverr, Kelly, JMT 35, Saulo Nulo, cottonbro studio, mohammed hassan, Miguel Á.
