In love, engaged, married: for many people, marriage is still an important bond of love and responsibility. A symbol of romance, but also necessary to settle legal matters in certain situations, such as having children together. But there is also a lot of criticism: marriage is outdated and exclusive. For example, only married couples benefit from tax and legal advantages made available to them by the state. Other family and relationship models, on the other hand, are not taken into account. Last but not least, patriarchal structures are also interwoven with marriage and are maintained by regulations such as spousal splitting. But does this mean that marriage is inherently unfair and should it be abolished? Or should it be maintained and possibly adapted? We discussed this in 13 questions. Our participants: Lisa Jaspers, author, founder Frank Matthée, wedding planner Jill, has a polyamorous relationship Ole Liebl, video creator Matthias Dantlgraber, Family Association of Catholics Chapters: 00:00 Intro 00:30 Is the marriage model at an end? 02:13 Are marriages still something special for you? 03:48 What does marriage mean to you? 07:05 Have you ever regretted your wedding? 09:07 Why should we protect marriage? 14:17 What would change if the three of you could get married? 17:24 Why does the state hold on to marriage? 24:01 Is equality in a marriage impossible? 18:17 Are you convinced by the criticism of the splitting of income between spouses? 30:20 Are you interested in abolishing marriage or adding similar models? 32:12 Can we agree that marriage privileges are only available to those constellations that have children together? 36:06 Can we agree on a modular system, mandatory legal advice, more privileges for non-marital partnerships and fewer for higher earners? 37:32 Can we agree that instead of marriage, there should be welfare communities that should receive shared privileges? 13 Questions is a format from ZDFkultur.
