Stories of the pious and sayings of the righteous, Imam Ali bin Abi Talib, may God honor his face, the door to entering the Holy Presence, sayings and wisdom of the door to the city of knowledge, my believing brother who seeks God Almighty alone, with no partner for Him: (And be patient with those who call upon their Lord morning and evening, seeking His countenance) These are the people of humility (And do not obey one whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance and who follows his desire and whose affair is ever in neglect) These are the people of heedlessness. The presence of the heart during the recitation of remembrance or during the recitation of the Holy Qur’an or during the performance of prayers is a matter Important so that you can emerge from darkness into light. During your worship of Allah the Almighty, you are between two matters: Either your heart is present and completely directed to Allah the Almighty, or you are worshipping with your limbs but your heart is heedless... Here, and because of the heedlessness of your heart, your soul that commands evil is the one present. Know that every act of worship of Allah the Almighty (with presence or heedlessness) has a fruit of gifts and blessings. However; Whoever's heart is heedless during worship, his heart's heedlessness will result in the presence of his soul, which commands evil. One of the signs of its presence is that it will occupy you with worldly matters during worship, or sadden you with memories or whispers that come to your chest, filling you with sadness and distress. This is one of the signs of its presence. When the incoming revelations descend upon you during your worship and you are in this state of heedlessness, your soul, which commands evil, takes away all the divine gifts from you. It feeds itself with these incoming revelations and becomes stronger with them against you in order to destroy you and tempt you (it is a snake). So you leave your worship with a narrow chest and sadness, and your life affairs become worse due to the dominance of the manifestations of the This lower self is over your worldly, outward life. Among the manifestations of this dark soul is the domination of your human enemies over you, despite their strength over you and your weakness in front of them, due to the strength of your soul that commands evil, or the repercussions that you find in your livelihood, lack of success, being afflicted with spiritual diseases, and people harming you, and so on, which you know very well and which you face every day in your life originally, because most of the worship that you perform is done while you are heedless of it in your heart, but Present with your soul that commands evil, which I have described to you the conditions of its presence upon you. And because of the loss of the condition of correct humility among people and their performance of their worship while they are heedless, their souls have taken control of them and everything related to this soul from outward and inward manifestations has taken control of them. Their conditions became more miserable and their lives became more difficult. Every time they resorted to worship to get out of the circle of misery in which they were, they entered it while they were heedless. Their conditions became more miserable and more difficult. And Allah is the One from whom help is sought. But if you enter into worship with a correct heart orientation, and the first correct heart orientation is your awareness of the meanings of what you read or remember of worship until your heart is present with every word, contemplating it and pondering it, you will find with a little patience, a relief in the chest and the gradual disappearance of the tightness of the soul from you. This matter requires patience and practice, but with a little effort, God Almighty willing, you will reach the state of the presence of the heart, which is: Contemplate and reflect completely on every word you say during your worship, whether in prayer, recitation, or remembrance. Here your heart will be stimulated and its senses will be activated, and the fruit of worship will come, which are the incoming things, and they will affect the heart, so it will become stronger and active, and the outward manifestations of the heart will come to you, which are the good life, abundance and blessing in sustenance, richness in good money, health, joy, reassurance, tranquility, and many beautiful outward conditions. Your enemies will gradually disappear, and the spiritual domination over you will stop, and your misery will gradually disappear, God willing. The inner states of the heart will also come to you through the effect of the strength of the heart’s senses, so you see with its vision, hear with its hearing, taste with its taste, and understand with its understanding. And Allah is the Grantor of success, and Allah is the Guide, and all praise is due to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. Beware, they will not separate until they come to me at the Cistern. Narrated by Ahmad (11578), Ibn Abi Asim in ((As-Sunnah)) (1553), Abu Ya’la (1140), and At-Tabarani.
