Ludwig Freiherr von Hammerstein-Equord (* 17.11.1919 in Berlin; + 26.2.1996 ibid) was the son of Kurt von Hammerstein-Equord and took part in the coup against Adolf Hitler in 1944. After the failed assassination attempt, he managed to evade arrest and lived underground until the end of the war. At the end of 1944, his mother Maria von Hammerstein and other family members were arrested because of their connections to the resistance. They were taken together with family members of the July 20th conspirators to a special, secure camp in the Buchenwald concentration camp, and later to a Regensburg prison. Ludwig and his brother Kunrat were wanted as deserters from the Wehrmacht. Kunrat von Hammerstein fled to the Rhineland, went into hiding and survived as a vagrant.
