Beautiful cliff scenery and columnar jointing 'Byeongpung Rock' 1) Namhae Jijok Strait Jukbangryeom Namhae, with its picturesque scenery of blue sky and emerald sea, and Namhae-gun, where you can gaze upon the sea forever, is located in the southwestern part of Gyeongsangnam-do. It is centered around the two large islands of Namhae-do and Changseon-do in the South Sea, and was connected to the land when the 660m Namhae Bridge opened in 1973, and when Changseon Bridge was built in 1980, Namhae-do and Changseon-do were connected. I captured this 2-day, 1-night trip to Namhae on video during the Lunar New Year holiday period. Departing from Jeonju at 9 am, the first destination, the Jukbangryeom in the Namhae Jijok Strait, is a beautiful place with the Anggang Bay in the background. The Jukbangryeom, a bamboo net filled with wisdom, is designated as Scenic Site No. 71 and National Important Fishery Heritage No. 3. Jukbangryeom can be seen by walking on the sea without going out on a boat, and the 'Jukbangryeom Anchovy Catching' is a popular tourist attraction in Namhae where you can feel the gentle movement of life along with the texture of the water. 2) German Village The German Village, full of exotic scenery and epics, is a small German village nestled in the treasure island of Namhae. The 'Namhae German Village' was created to help the miners and nurses who went to Germany to work in coal mines and hospitals in the distant foreign land of Germany in the 1960s and 1970s, who led the modernization of their country, settle down in their homeland, so that they can feel and live in Germany, where they lived, in the warm southern treasure island of South Korea, Namhae. It is a place like the final destination of longing. When you come to Namhae, which is home to many unique shops and cafes, we highly recommend stopping by. 3) Mulmi Coastal Observatory Built with the concept of a lighthouse illuminating the Namhae sea, this cylindrical observatory offers a 360-degree view and lets you experience the feeling of “floating in the sky.” The most popular activity here is the “Skywalk,” where tourists walk on a glass floor supported by wires and jump into the air for a moment, allowing them to take thrilling photos and memories. Below the walking path, you can enjoy the rocks and crashing waves while viewing nature. 4) Namhae Topia Land “Topiary” refers to a work of art created by trimming plants into various pretty shapes. Namhae Topia Land is a fairy tale-like park where various sculptures of Chinese juniper and yew trees have been created, just like Alice in Wonderland. It is a place where you can relax while enjoying phytoncide in a dense cypress forest, and it is located in a place where you can coolly look out over the blue South Sea, so it can be called a true ocean view park. 5) Mijo Port Marine Promenade The Mijo Port Marine Promenade, which shines like a treasure, is a healing promenade where you can walk on the South Sea. The Mijo Port Marine Promenade, which was built as part of a beautiful fishing port development project, has a blue wooden deck that you can walk on slowly as exercise, and you can meet glass floors here and there where you can clearly see the sea beneath your feet. After a brief dizziness, if you diligently follow the path, you will gradually get closer to the breakwater with its colorful walls. Take in the sights first and take pictures, and every place you step on is a breakwater or a wide promenade deck, and it is a relatively quiet place among the tourist attractions in Namhae, so it is the best place to quietly heal while enjoying the pretty sky and seascape. 6) Namhae Anggang Bay, which has all the characteristics of our country's coastline, has cliffs resembling the East Sea, tidal flats resembling the West Sea, and Mongdol Beach in Namhae, and is a place where you can see various seascapes. If you want to see the islands dotted around and the endless sea, climb the high and low mountains surrounding Anggang Bay, such as Geumsan, Hogusan, and Seolheulsan. Also, if you want to take a break while walking along the coast, you can catch your breath in the shade of the coastal forests formed by windbreaks in each of the seaside villages, such as Sinjeon Village, Honghyeon Village, Sukho Village, Dugok Village, and Woncheon Village. 7) American Village The American Village in Namhae, which exudes an exotic atmosphere, is located in Yongso Village, Idong-myeon, Namhae-gun. The American Village, which was created in a place where you can see Anggan Bay and Nodo at a glance to the south with Hogusan Mountain behind, was created for the retirement life of Koreans living in the United States. It is a place that attracts a lot of visitors due to its exotic atmosphere that seems to have been moved from the American village. 8) Yongmunsa Temple, the largest and oldest temple in Namhae Yongmunsa Temple is located on Hogusan Mountain, 650m above sea level, which is designated as Namhae County Park. Yongmunsa Temple, the largest and oldest temple in Namhae, is so cold that it feels cold even in the summer due to the clear water of Hogusan Valley, which resembles a tiger lying down. Yongmunsa Temple began with Wonhyo Daesa. It is said that Wonhyo Daesa visited Geumsan and built Bogwangsa Temple and named the mountain Bogwangsan, and then built Hogusan Cheomseonggak and moved Bogwangsa Temple from Geumsan to this place. Yongmunsa Temple is considered to be the successor temple to Bogwangsa Temple. 9) Shots that cut through the waves, the charm of a seaside golf course Ananti Namhae Ananti Namhae Golf Course, where you can enjoy golf all year round, consists of 7 courses adjacent to the seaside and 11 courses overlooking the sea, allowing you to enjoy the feeling of playing golf in the middle of the sea. Perhaps if you play golf, I recommend playing a round at Ananti Namhae before you die. Also, the nearby South Cape Golf Club is famous because after Bae Yong-joon and Park Soo-jin got married in 2015, they rented out two villas here as their honeymoon destination, using one for themselves and the other for their friends who came with them. By the way, you cannot enter South Cape without a reservation, so I could not take a video. 10) The beautiful scenery of the layered Suseongam cliffs at Sangjokam County Park After finishing our 2-day and 1-night trip to Namhae, before leaving for Jeonju, we also visited the nearby Goseong Sangjokam County Park, which is famous for its sea caves. It is a place where you can see various rocky cliffs and dinosaur footprints from the Cretaceous Period, and you can walk along the 3.5km coastal trail and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the southern coast. Sangjokam is where several caves were created when the sedimentary rock cliffs were eroded by waves. It is called Sangjokam because its shape resembles a table leg and an elephant leg. If you walk along the coastal path and look toward Ipam Port, you can see the columnar joints of Byeongpungbawi Rock. It is a beautiful cliff created by igneous rock that hardened to the surface when lava erupted. It is a landscape that can be seen mainly in Jeju Island. If you climb up to the observatory here, you can see a wonderful view with all four sides open. 11) Gachon Darangi Village in Namhae is a village that is surrounded by the sea but does not have a single boat. This is also because the village is surrounded by a coastal cliff. Since they could not build a breakwater or even a dock, the villagers began to cultivate the barren land and farm. That is how the Darangi rice fields (Scenic Site No. 15), which were built by piling up stone walls layer by layer, were born. The Gachon Darangi Village experience begins with a tour of the Darangi rice fields, which are full of the tenacity of the Namhae people. Although the rice fields are jagged and randomly shaped, there are refreshing walking paths and observation decks between them, so you can comfortably look around. It takes about an hour to look around the famous Amsubawi Rock (Gyeongnam Folklore Material No. 13), Babmudeom, Gureumdari, and Mongdol Beach, which are Darangi's specialties.
