Deep in the mountains of Wakayama Prefecture, there is an area where more than half of the population are immigrants. Life in a remote world like in a fairy tale. A life of inconvenience chosen by people leaving the city. What was it that they were willing to give up stability for? The Irokawa district of Nachikatsuura Town, Wakayama Prefecture, is close to Nachi Falls. Asako Toyama visited the area while she was a graduate student at the University of Tokyo and was fascinated by it. She met her husband Tetsuya, and now lives there with their two children. There are many other immigrants besides the Toyamas, and today the majority of the population are immigrants. There is no end to the people wanting to immigrate to Irokawa. But why is this? Irokawa has a 40-year history of walking alongside immigrants. There was apparently a gap between the local residents and the immigrants. But to overcome this, the two sides created a system.
