I stayed at Saiunso at Fujishichi Onsen in Hachimantai Onsen Village, Iwate Prefecture. This is my first visit since stopping by two years ago. This time, the on-season rate was 15,800 yen per person. There is a famous mixed-gender open-air bath that bubbles up, and women can use their own bath towels and bathing suits. The meals were heavy on mushrooms and wild vegetables, as you would expect from a mountain lodge. *The thing they call "ui" at breakfast might be morning glory. Unfortunately it was raining, but the experience of bathing in the open-air bath at night on the vast grounds was a special experience that you can only experience if you stay overnight. It's an inn I'd like to visit again in the green season when there is still snow remaining. *Photographs were taken with permission.
