The player finds themselves on a tiny, floating platform in the middle of the ocean, with only a hook as a tool at their disposal. The goal of the game is to survive and expand their platform into a floating fortress. The player must fish flotsam out of the water and use it to expand their platform and build useful tools, weapons and items. During the game, players must also keep an eye on their basic needs such as hunger, thirst and exhaustion. This requires gathering and preparing food and filtering salt water. However, the oceans in Raft are not only hostile to life, they also offer unexplored islands, hidden treasures and mysterious underwater worlds to explore.
