SANTA GERTRUDES FARM Santa Gertrudes - SP #farmwedding #historicfarms #farmsforwedding In 1821, Brigadier Manuel Rodrigues Jordão bought a plot of land in the legendary Sesmaria do Morro Azul, belonging to the brothers Galvão de França and Manuel de Barros Ferraz. His son, the Baron of São João de Rio Claro, founded the Santa Gertrudes Farm in 1854 on part of this plot. The Baron named it Santa Gertrudes in honor of the memory of his mother, D. Gertrudes Galvão de Moura Lacerda. After the Baron's death, his wife and widow Baroness D. Maria Hipólita dos Santos married the Marquis of Três Rios in 1873, who thus became the second owner of the farm. On his initiative, the farm was served by the railroad, which brought great progress and development to the region. After the death of the Marquis and his wife, who left no descendants, the farm was inherited by D. Antônia dos Santos Silva Prates, sister of the Marquise of Três Rios and married to the Count of Prates. It was precisely at this time and on the initiative of the Count, an influential man and great entrepreneur, that the farm reached its greatest peak. Between 1890 and 1910, the Count built one of the largest and most technologically advanced structures for planting, processing and selling coffee, which involved carpentry, blacksmithing, saddlery, coffee granaries, coffee machines, warehouses, joinery, a school, a cinema, stables, corrals, dams, aqueducts, a church, lookouts, a steam plant to supply electricity, and the minting of its own currency. This entire structure remains preserved. It comprises over twenty-two thousand square meters of construction harmoniously created by the good taste of a French architect who, for over a century, had been subject to the rules of an academic master plan. In the early decades of the 20th century, the farm was always considered a model and was therefore visited by distinguished people who arrived from São Paulo by train and were received at the station in the village, formerly called Gramado and now Santa Gertrudes, by the Count of Prates with his always gleaming and impeccable carriages. The farm, with its centuries-old French architecture, receives visitors and takes them back to the golden age of coffee, from harvesting to boarding at the train station, including all the intermediate processes. The two-hour tour will give visitors a real idea of the work and techniques used at a time when all transportation was carried out on donkeys, wagons or ox carts, and electricity came from steam and water wheels, all labor was imported from Europe, as well as all finished products such as iron, cement and tiles. Tours are scheduled in advance and in groups of: Minimum of 20 people with coffee or afternoon snack. Minimum of 40 people with coffee and lunch or lunch and afternoon snack.
