Marriage is one of the most complex human institutions. It was once a way of preserving the collective, then the heritage, and more recently a way of preserving the affective fact. Is marriage currently a way of filling our existential void, or on the contrary, a way of expanding our existential potential – which ultimately overflows into an alliance with the other? After all, why and for what do we get married? Lecture from the module A cycle is over... and now? Curated by the CPFL Institute The flow of death and life in the cycles of our contemporary existences takes away our illusion of permanence. We are immersed in the river of the famous fragment by the philosopher Heraclitus, in which it is impossible to bathe twice, because everything is in permanent transformation, the river and ourselves. It is understandable that in our contemporary times, in which the liquidity of relationships prevails, as Zygmunt Bauman taught us, we invariably need to resignify what we habitually learned to be. In the 2007-2008 season, CPFL Philosophical Café addressed issues whose consequences were already rapidly changing our ways of life, such as climate change, migration, violence and widespread poverty. We named this season The end of a world is not the end of the world – how will we survive the 21st century? Taking this season as a reference, and still looking back at the dramatic consequences left by the recent pandemic we are facing, this unprecedented series of recordings of the Café in June 2024 is guided by the idea that the end of a cycle does not necessarily mean the point where everything ends. The end of a cycle can bring the pain of rupture and insecurity about the future, as in the transition from youth to adulthood, from one job to another, from singlehood to married life – or vice versa, in the case of separations. But the end of cycles can also be the catalyst for intensive renewals. How can we prepare for the living uncertainties of the ruptures that plague our lives, but at the same time point to the opening of new cycles on the horizon? How can we strengthen resilience in the face of ruptures and transform it into power to build positive paths for personal and collective reinvention? Will we survive the intense cycles of life in the 21st century? Subscribe to the channel and click on the bell to be notified of news! Follow TV Cultura on social media!
