In the documentary series “MY ROOTS - The Search of My Life”, four people face their own past and go in search of their unknown fathers and mothers. In doing so, they want to find answers to the pressing questions of their lives: Why did my biological parents leave me? Have they ever tried to find me? And how much of them is in me? But their search is not just about finding names and faces, but about a moving journey into the labyrinth of their own family history and the question: Who am I really? Like Elisa (35), whose search takes her from Germany to Colombia. As a baby, she was adopted by a German family. The only information she has about her biological mother is a name in her birth certificate. A vague clue that becomes a promising lead and leads Elisa to Bogota in Colombia. There is initially no trace of Philip's (42) father, although he has heard a lot about him: he is said to have been a professional footballer and to own gold mines in Mexico. As a child, he receives three visits from the mysterious man, then contact breaks off. Over 20 years later, Philip, now a father of two children himself, decides to meet him again as a grown man. Max (38) also makes this decision, many years after his father left the family. For fear of rejection, Max is afraid to look for him for a long time. It is only when his own son is born and his fiancée finds crucial clues behind his back that he decides to face his fears and finally make contact with him. Daniela (47), who is given up for adoption as a baby, feels gratitude towards her biological mother above all for not having an abortion. Her wish to finally say thank you in person is denied for a long time, because between Daniela's jobs as a pediatrician and mother of three children, there is hardly any time for the extensive research. Her journey takes an unexpected turn when she meets her mother's half-siblings. For almost a year, the camera accompanies them on their stirring journey, between setbacks and promising clues. In the process, they also realize how the missing biological parents shape their own role as mothers and fathers. Some of them find what they are looking for in their search, others learn that they must make peace with the gap in their lives forever. What they all have in common: Elisa, Philip, Max and Daniela go through a profound transformation, because every step on their journey brings them a little closer to themselves. "MY ROOTS - The search of my life" is the gripping search for the roots of one's own origins.
